HOUSTON RODEO

1932 saw the establishment of the Famous Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo, now an annual event and revered tradition.  Every year in February and March, this event becomes larger and larger and has spread out to cover several acres and 30+ days.  Tens of thousands of Houstonians and visitors attend this fantastic event each year.  Also, Houstonians celebrate each year by dressing up in country attire the Friday before the Rodeo starts, known as Go Texan Day. Many businesses in Houston let their employees come to work dressed this way each year.

Trail Riders still ride into the Reliant Center via horseback and wagons from cities and towns all around Houston, meeting up in Memorial Park to rest and celebrate right before the activities begin.  They also participate in the famous barbeque and Parade downtown .

The Rodeo itself brings contestants from all over the world to compete in a wide range of events such as bull riding, calf roping, bronco busting, barrel racing, as well as other events.  Singers and entertainers are invited to perform on a huge stage at the Reliant Center for concerts, for which they travel from major Cities all over the United States to attend.  Besides famous country and western singers and performers, there are hip hop acts, Latin performers, and a range of other shows suited to any type of musical taste. There are also hundreds of market stalls and commercial vendors selling every kind of  product or service related to agriculture, animals, and western clothing and culture.

Houston hosts and, yes, boasts of the largest Rodeo and Livestock Show on earth; with live entertainment, concerts, all kinds of food, carnival rides, and acres of animal breeders showing off a variety of farm animals, many having babies in their pen.  Even if you choose just to attend the Stock Show, you will be amazed at all the animals from horses and cattle to chickens and rabbits and everything between.  There is also a children’s area with a petting zoo, and many showcasing areas where you can get fantastic pictures of your children or yourself.  The Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo is also a charity event benefiting children with need- based college scholarships.

It is hard to imagine how Houston has grown to what it is today, hosting an event infinitely larger than it was the year it first started in 1932.  And, yes, we are proud to carry on the tradition as part of our great history.  We also love to attend as many times as possible, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year.  You will find it difficult to see everything at this incredible Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo in just one visit and please plan early as many concerts fill up as soon as they are announced.

This large event is held in February and March each year and celebrated by the entire city.  It is something you do not want to miss and you can really enjoy with the entire family.  You can check out this unique event as well as many others in HOUSTON, TEXAS.
